Fourteen hikers strolled 7.5 miles on roads that passed Lone Rock.  Two retraced their steps to Lone Rock for a slightly shorter walk. They missed the steepest anti-gravity "down-hill" mile + in recent memory.
Lupines, penstemons, orange paintbrushes, blooming yucca, bright yellow western wallflowers, and lesser plants adorned the open spaces brilliantly. Abundant, large bristlecone pines and a few mighty limber pines dominated the forest cover.
We welcomed back several Creede and South Fork summer hikers. Thanks to Dick Dove and Dennis Shepherd for orienting us to this interesting and attractive route. Dennis Shepherd agreed to guide friends on Tuesdays; he suggests parking at 9 a.m. at Rickel Park in South Fork.
Doug will organize the Monday hikes, starting at 9 am at South Fork Visitor Center. The routes will usually be different.Creede hikers also invite no-liability hikers to join them in Creede or nearby on Thursday mornings. Opportunities to hike yourself to good health and agility!
Update on Dawn Klein: She is retraining her body to become ambulatory in Pagosa Springs. She may be home in South Fork this weekend, but will require several months to regain her safe hiking condition. Our best wishes and prayers go out to Dawn.
