We hiked around the West side of Big Meadows lake to the Archuleta Trailhead, then 2 1/2 miles along Archuleta Creek to a great lunch spot. Lots of wild flowers out now, couldn't identify all of them. Terrific views of rapids and waterfalls as well as some snow banks still hanging around in the shady areas...........we came back down the trail and hiked around the East side of Big Meadows lake and back to the trucks, about 6 miles overall. A good, beautiful hike!
We will hike to Lone Rock next week then around to Shorty Springs, down through the old Embargo town site and to the lower Baughman creek crossing where we will pick up a dropped vehicle. Bring your lunch, water and a friend to the Visitor Center for a 9 AM departure.........
