Shaw Lake Trail

We started at the N end of Shaw lake on the newly cleared Shaw Lake trail, watch for cairns to keep you on the trail. After about 1 1/2 miles we came to a creek crossing; go downstream about 50 yards to a couple of logs you can cross on.  About an 1/4 mile further we hit the Lake Fork trail; we followed it up about 1/2 mile to the Tie Hill trail.  We followed the Tie Hill trail for about 2 1/2 mile to FSR 430 (lots of cairns and posts added to this part of the trail to keep you on it).  We took the road down about 200 yards to a logging road (used to be FSR 431) and followed it for a little over 2 miles to a dead end.  At the dead end we went into the forest looking for the Kitty Cr. trail; after searching for a few minutes we found it among a lot of deadfalls.  We followed the Kitty Cr. trail for about 2 miles down to the S end of Shaw lake (lots of trees down across the trail) where its trailhead is, then hoofed it back up the road to the jeep.

I had told the folks it would probably (emphasis on probably) be between 6 & 7 miles to make the loop; it turned out to be a little over 8 miles.  For those of you that want a good workout, I recommend the Kitty Cr. trail from the lake to the old logging road; it is steep!

The Thursday hike will be near the same area, using the Highline Trail (very seldom used) to the Stair Steps and then back to the road using one of three trails, determined by the group before leaving the VC.

We will meet at the VCPL at 9AM, bring LOTS of water (the dead trees don't provide much shade), lunch and several friends.
