Ivy Creek/Ice cave Hike

26 hikers from South Fork and Creede got acquainted at Ivy Creek Campground. We soon split into two groups, then three, as we entered the Weminuche Wilderness Area. After separate lunches beside the beautiful, sonorous Ivy Creek, we descended and then drove up to an old mine to see a big block of old snow and ice in the entry of an air vent. We did not learn the name of the mine; we aren't sure of the location, due to a very twisting road and several intersections. Some interesting phenomena!
Next Tuesday, all hikers will meet at 9 a.m. at the South Fork Visitor Center. If we discover the need, it may involve some work in removing trees from a favorite trail. If not, be ready for an adventure. Gloves may be advisable. Lunches, too.--Doug Knudson
