Continental Divide Trail

We hiked in on the Continental Divide Trail for a little over 4 miles and then hiked back out after lunch. There were 25 of us which meant that when we got into the Weinimuche Wilderness we had to separate into two groups to comply with the Wilderness Rules. There must have been another 40 hikers on the trail, more than we had ever met before.........next week we will hike a trail that is not as popular. We beat the rain by a few minutes, only a few drops on us as we were nearly to the vehicles, lucky again.

We will hike Wednesday night starting off with a wiener roast at 7 PM, the Silverthread Club is furnishing the hot dogs, condiments, buns and potato chips. Others are bringing the chili, hot chocolate mix, paper products and some brownies. Bring a dish to share with the group, also bring a chair or stool to sit on. I will have the hot and cold water for the drinks, also the fixins for s'mores

We will have the campfire at Shaw Mesa; take the Del Norte Peak road which is 1 mile East of South Fork for approx. 3 miles and then take a left. Continue on this road for about 1/4 mile and then take another left toward the closed gate. The campfire will be to the left (West) of the gate among the stand of trees.

The Full moon should be visible by about 830, we will hike over to the overlook and then back to the campfire. This is an easy hike (especially after today's hike) and is out in the open. Please bring a flashlight just in case it is cloudy.

Hope to see you tomorrow evening.

Next weeks hike will be "off the beaten path & no other hikers", but no bushwhacking! Meet at the Visitors Center at 8 AM and bring your lunch, water and a friend......

Dennis
