Tuesday ATV Ride

It was a wonderful day for a ride. We found some down trees, some snow, and some signs to replace. The weather was great and the scenery was beautiful.

Rock Creek hike

Wayne & Linda led us on a pleasant hike today in the Rock Cr. area, we saw the wagon ruts, lots of wildflowers and too much trash (which we picked up). It was a beautiful day, very little wind and lots of sunshine. We hiked about 4 miles and it was a "gentle" hike.
Tomorrow, Doug will lead on a "not so gentle hike" up to the top of Sentinel Mtn. Be sure and go so you can record your name in the sign in sheet at the cairn...........
Thursday I will lead a hike up one canyon of Agua Ramon and down another. The weather is supposed to be cloudy and cool so it will keep us cooled off out in the open.
All hikes meet at 9AM at the Visitor Center, please bring a lunch, water and a friend............

Tick Removal

A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. Read this one as it could save you from some major problems.

Tick Removal: Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children or your pets. Give it a try.

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough to share--and it really works!

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.

"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

Coller CG hike

We hiked above Coller CG, West to above the Palisades CG and then back to the trucks, between 4 & 5 miles total. The wildflowers are starting to come out, it will be interesting to see if we had enough moisture for any display.........
We will hike in the Silver Pass area next Thursday if the road is open, otherwise we will go to the Agua Ramon area. Meet at 9AM at the VCPL and bring plenty of water, lunch and a friend...
