We had a cool hike today, the sun did come out just as we came out of the timber and warmed us up nicely. The stair steps are one of the most scenic spots in this area, with views all around. Sixteen of us started and all sixteen made it to the stair steps, welcome back Wanda!
Almost all of the mature trees are dead from the attack of the various beetles, the young trees should have a good chance of some rapid growth without the competition..........
We will do a short (less than 3 miles) loop hike Thursday, we will build a cairn for the start of the Trout Cr. trail cutoff so it will be easier for other folks to locate it. We will circle through Goodrich Park, around Goodrich Peak and back up the road to the vehicles.
There have been some good mushrooms found in this area in previous trips, perhaps you may want to bring a paper bag along with your lunch, water, raingear and a friend. We will meet at the VCPL at 9 AM...........
Dennis
