The Lake fork trail was reopened Monday afternoon with the standard message of entering at your own risk; we were very cautious as we approached the burn area about 3/4 mile up from the trailhead. The group took their time and checked out the trail for any leaner's, overhangers and any other hazard that might be a problem. The trail looks in very good shape, there is only one washout about 2 miles up (one of our lunch spots) and the waterbars are doing their jobs well.
A big THANK YOU to the Forest Service for all the trail clearing that has been done on this trail since the fire; there are only a few deadfalls that have come down since. There are literally hundreds of aspen sprouts coming up in the trail, even a long ways from any burned area.
The trail stays on the North slope of the canyon and it is predominantly aspen forest; only in a few places did the trail actually traverse a burned area. The fire stayed on the South side of the canyon primarily. The restrooms remain closed and the public is using the trail as a latrine in places...........
Please excuse the long download, there were many, many pix I didn't send........
