Venture into South San Juan Wilderness

We drove a long way; we walked less than a mile. Yet, we saw a splendid series of falls and a plethora of flowers plus a lake and the splendid vistas of the Stunner area.

Bob and I now have galleries of waterfall photos. Bob called this steep, short hike the richest compact scenery he's seen. Then we added the calm ripples of Lily Lake for contrast.

Thanks to Madelyn Treibly for lowering our average age, yet climbing like a trooper.

Next Tuesday, an expedition will head out on foot from Hanson's Mill at 8 a.m. to visit Wheeler Geological Area. That means leaving the South Fork Visitor Center at 6:45 a.m. You will meet Bob Seago from Creede at Hanson's Mill.

I'll talk to several people familiar with the trail about leading the group from the Visitor Center parking lot and on the hiking trail.

My brother and I will be camping just outside the Geol.Area from Sunday to Tuesday afternoon. We expect to greet you when you arrive, then accompany you back to Hanson's Mill on Tuesday.

Wheeler is one of the true gems of the Rio Grande National Forest. The hike is beautiful and relatively easy. It is although 7 miles long each way. Judy, Linda, Pat, Mayebelle, Wayne and I have made it in recent years. We're all still functioning.
