Barry was our guide today and he took us on a great hike! We started at the end of Hidden Valley road on Bennet Cr. We went up about 1/2 mile to the Bennet Cr. ATV trail and followed it a ways until it turned to the SW and crossed the creek. We stayed on the E side of the creek and followed a pack trail along Little Bennet creek for a couple of miles thru a great aspen growth; it sure was nice to hike in the shade under GREEN trees for a change. We left the pack trail and bushwhacked back to the N along the ridge just W of Frisco creek drainage until we hit the E trailhead of the Bennet Cr. ATV trail, which we followed back down to Bennet Cr., completing our loop. Then it was a short hike back to the vehicles. According to Barry's GPS we covered just under 6.5 miles.
The Bennett Cr. ATV trail is getting bad; there are places on the side hill where the lower track is at least 18 inches lower than the upper track. If you ride this trail be very careful. A few of you may remember about 10-12 years ago when I had and incident with my ATV on this trail; we found parts and gear scattered all over the side hill and found everything except one tire chain; when we stopped for a short break under a shade tree today, Barry happened to look up and saw a tire chain hanging from a branch. You guessed it, it was my missing tire chain, weird.
Wayne will be leading the hike Monday and Tuesday, meet at the VCPL at 9AM, bring your lunch water and a friend.
Next Thursdays hike will be up the West Frisco Cr. trail and then come back on the Middle Frisco Cr. Trail........
