The Beaver Creek Youth Camp isn't very big, but its 2-2.5 feet of snow kept us busy for almost two hours. Snowshoes on soft, fluffy snow sink deeply--at least knee deep. The six stalwarts got sufficient exercise to propose a sidetrip to Blimpies for coffee and snacks.

Of the six, three are leaving town for warmer climes for a while. (It wasn't our hike that did it--they had plans.)

That means that we have a few openings for new snowshoers. Really, we have no limitation on numbers; we enjoyed company of over 20 a few weeks ago. You are welcome to join us next Monday, 5-10 minutes before 10 a.m., at the South Fork Visitor Center. We will take a short drive to the Rio Grande National Forest, one of America's public land jems.

As you can see, the scenery is stupendous. We expect to stay close to South Fork, but you'll see the place from a special perspective--vividly, under a blanket of snow, and that Colorado purple Kodachrome sky. And you will be one with the snow--a great experience, even for those of us who have enjoyed it for many decades.
