Rainbow Trail

Wayne & Linda led us up the Rainbow Trail which follows up the West Fork of the San Juan River on the Pacific side of the Continental Divide. We went up about 2.5 miles to a lunch spot and then a little further before turning around and coming back to the vehicles. We met a couple of guys from Germany that were impressed by our open spaces and lots of sunshine. The aspen are a couple of weeks behind ours in the South Fork area, a few have changed but not many.
Our Thursday hike will be down the Shady Cr. trail on the East side of Del Norte peak, we will coast down the hill about 2 miles to a very scenic hill that offers a 300degree view of a massive aspen forest. We will hike through a large aspen grove on the way down. Then we will decide if we want to make a loop around to the Castle Rock trail or return on the same trail to the vehicles.
We will have a Moonlight Outing next Monday at Shaw Mesa, this time we will have a "soup & salad" meal. We will bring a pot of Santa Fe soup and if a couple others would bring chili or vegetable soup or whatever, it would be appreciated. Mary & I will go up about 530 to help Wayne & Linda with the fire, we will plan on eating about 7PM. If you want to make your soup in a crock pot I can plug them into my truck to keep it hot or Wayne will have a camp stove to keep it hot. If the rest of you folks would make a salad or dessert to complement the soup I think it will all work out.
We will meet Thursday at the VCPL at 9am, bring a lunch, water and a friend wearing an orange vest.......
