Full moon outing, Shaw Mesa

Well, the full moon played peek-a-boo with us until 9 o'clock and then decided to let us view it in its entirety.  We had a great bunch of folks, several first-timers, and a lovely evening in which to enjoy our Gods creation!

 

Thanks to all that helped, brought food, helped setup, roasted the dogs and everyone for making it a very enjoyable evening.  The Moulds and the Shepherds couldn't bear to put out such a nice fire, so we were a little late getting back in.

 

Wayne led a record number (25) of folks over to the overlook and then back to the fire to try some s'mores, nobody got lost in the dark, nobody got hurt so I call that a great hike..................

Lost lake hike

Wayne led the group into Lost Lake for a nice pleasant hike; the kids and I made it as far as the cairn.  Lots of grasshoppers out, must have been a recent hatch, the wildflowers are almost gone at this elevation.

 

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A COOKOUT/HIKE TONIGHT AT SHAW MESA AT 7PM.  BRING A DISH TO GO WITH THE DOGS.  DRINKS, PAPER PRODUCTS, S'MORES, HOT DOGS AND CHILI ARE BEING FURNISHED.  YOU MAY WANT TO BRING SOMETHING TO SET ON.  HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.....

 

Doug will be leading you tomorrow and Thursday, be sure and join him for a couple of great hikes..........

Platoro Ride

We had 17 machines and 23 people to go on our ride to Platoro Wednesday. It was a 75 mile trip, but was a lot of fun and the burgers were good. Thanks to all that made the trip enjoyable.

Hogback Mesa Hike--Tuesday

A relatively short and easy high altitude hike south of Del Norte Peak ended up as long and tiring.  We explored a bit and became familiar with places unplanned and unknown to us, totaling 9.4 miles. Fortunately, the truck stayed obediently where it was left and then carried us home. 

 

The high country scenery was spectacular, with everything from thick fog to bright blue and sunny skies.

Alpine flowers showed off abundantly.  We interrupted a trip of 6 or 7 elk as they paraded in front of us twice.

 

Next hikes: 

Thursday with Dennis 9 a.m.

Monday with Wayne 9 a.m.

Tuesday up high with Doug 9 a.m. (probably no more than 6 miles)

Friday Work Day

We had 9 folks to help on the work day today. We did away with some rocks and filled up some mud holes with rocks. The new machine works great to haul rocks.

Silver pass to Bonito pass hike

We started out at Silver Pass at 10500 ft. and had lunch on top at an elevation of 11600 ft. over a distance of about 2 miles.  The trail is in good shape with only a few trees down on the trail.

 

As always, the views were magnificent, very little smoke from the Windy Pass fire and none from the West Fork fire (YEA!). As you can see the wildflowers are out in full force for our pleasure..............

 

I didn't see the bull elk but everybody else did, he was in velvet.  On the way to the Silver Pass we saw a doe with a TINY fawn, couldn't have been very old.

 

Wayne will be leading a hike Monday for your enjoyment, meet at the VCPL at 9AM, bring lunch water and raingear........
