Elephant rocks hike

Wayne took us over North of Del Norte to the Elephant Rocks area, lots of rock formations to trigger your imagination.  Some folks agreed about what the rocks resembled, others weren't so sure, just a matter of view and imagination.  We found an alternate route back to the trucks.........

We took a good trail/road into the area and had our lunch in a great spot with a view and out of any wind.  Lots of good fellowship and "networking" as the saying goes............

The Anaconda irrigation ditch started in South Fork and went all the way to Saguache, almost 60 miles (further than that based on the terrain it had to follow) and was constructed in the early 1900's.  It is hard to imagine the amount of labor and effort it took to construct it without modern machinery.  Another "trough" or span may be seen on Embargo Cr. road about 1/2 mile N of CR15 on the left hand side of the road.  Thanks to John Graeser for this information...........

Doug is planning on an assault of Sentinel Mtn. tomorrow, be ready to get your legs & lungs in shape. I will lead another hike in the Limekiln/ Old Spanish Trail area on Thursday.

Hope to see all of you at the VC at 9AM with lunch, water, orange garb and several friends......

Dennis
